Topic: Love Conquered All
What are some of the traditional symbols of "Sweethearts Day?" There's the red heart with arrows jabbed between two slits with Cupid symbolizes a god of love. Long-stemmed red roses and red heart-shaped gift boxes trimmed with red and white lacy ribbons and satin bows are on display. The message of Valentine's Day, February 14th is, "I've got love on my mind."
Now let's look at love from a spiritual viewpoint. Since the beginning of time, God has been (and is) the ultimate symbol of love. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son" (John 3:16). The Gospel message conveys an agape-type of love.
The God kind of love that says, "I love you unconditionally and unselfishly." There are no strings attached. Conversely, the love message of Valentine's Day is romantic, sensual, and erotic. It says, "I love you conditionally." There are some strings attached.
Let's consider the traditional colors of red and white for Valentine's Day. From a spiritual viewpoint, red symbolizes passion and the crimson-stained blood Love shed on the cross. White symbolizes purity, clean, etc. Remember Isaiah 1:18, "...Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Pure love is a gift from God.
Remember as you celebrate this Valentine's Day and every day, to share the message of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When His pure unconditional love flows from our hearts to others, we reflect His glory and goodness to others.
So I ask you, "What does love have to do with it? Love has everything to do with who we are and whose we are. God is love; His love transforms hearts; and His love conquers all.
