Fall is in the air.
Mood:  special
Topic: Write On!
The chilly air and the falling leaves let me know it's Fall. The chilly air makes me shiver and shake, and it feels more like Winter.  I found myself turning on the heat in my home much sooner than usual.  I even pulled out the wool sweaters, jackets, and flannel sheets that had been tucked away since last Winter. Pretty soon we will be singing, "Jack Frost nipping at your nose...."

The changing of the climatic seasons brings to mind the climatic seasons for writers. "What! Writers have seasons too?" you asked. "Absolutely." Do you know which season you are in as a writer?

A few years ago, I wrote a column on "Discovering your Writer's Season." For the sake of this post, I will recap some of the verbiage from that column concerning Autumn (aka) Fall as it relates symbolically to writers.

Autumn symbolizes the mature or golden years of a writer's life. Sometimes, dramatic changes occur during this season. For instance, the empty-nester syndrome includes adult children going off to college, marrying or joining the military. Or in other instances, adult children of empty nesters move back into the family home bringing their extended families with them because of the challenging economical woes.

So how does all of this relates to writers?  Often, I refer to my writings as babies (they are conceived and birthed too). An empty nest is symbolic to writer's block where one may feel empty and void of purpose. Have you had those days when you have felt empty and void of purpose? When you turned on your computer, you found yourself staring at an empty computer screen. This has happened to me on more occasions than I can count.

However, I have discovered that journaling is a good remedy for writer's block.  One day the empty nester syndrome or writer's block stared me in my face. Putting ink to paper, I penned, "...What's on my heart? My heart is my core...my center...my spirit. It's where I am truthful and honest with me...." After journaling, six pages of writings were yielded from this exercise.  Journaling cured my writer's block and my climatic season changed from Autumn (aka) Fall to early Spring (I will address in a separate post).

You can identify and change your writer's season too. Write on!
